"This quilt was created and designed by Polly Poulin (pictured) for the Amistad Friendship Quilt Project, hosted by Montgomery college of Maryland, in conjunction with Amistad America, Inc. The project was created to provide quilts for the bunks on the Amistad Freedom Schooner. This quilt is one of many that will sail on the Amistad. The quilt was Machine-Quilted by Dottie Cyr of Oak Ledge Quilting. The 129-foot replica of the Amistad was officially launched at Mystic seaport in Mystic, Connecticut on the 25th of March, 2000. This ship was famous for the rebellion of 53 kidnapped Africans, intended to be sold as slaves, known as 'The Amistad Revolt of 1839-1842'. The Amistad will be part of Operation Sail in July, 2000, in celebration of the Millennium."
